Summer Programs

ASK ABOUT MEMBER BINGO!!

We want our members to experience ALL we have to offer. Starting June 31st, we will be offering a BINGO game free of charge to all of our members. All you have to do is ask the front desk for a BINGO card, then participate in as many activities as you can in a two week period. The first five (5) members with BINGO will receive a FREE Proehlific Park shirt.

If we get a good response then we will play again every two weeks throughout the summer.

Proehlific Park summer programming starts June 16th.

Every day we will have scheduled acitivities for all children at the park. These activities will be divided up by age groups and will encompass all areas of the park. We will be posting a calendar with all of the events shortly.

PROEHLIFIC PARK SUMMER CAMP INFORMATION NOW AVAILABLE!

Proehlific Park camps are designed to teach and inspire campers of all levels and ages with the perfect balance of skill building, sportsmanship, competition, and fun. Our camps are both challenging and rewarding and designed with the understanding that every camper is here to learn, improve and apply their learned skills to the game. Campers will benefit from our philosophy of small group instruction, close super-vision, emphasis on skills, quality game play and focus on sportsmanship and teamwork. Fundamental instruction, individual and team competition are all part of the camp experience. Campers are grouped according to age and ability. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt.

Additionally we will offer both early drop off and late pick-up options for all of our athletic camps (excluding football).
Times: 8:00am - 3:00pm (Members have the option to stay until closing as part of Membership pricing )
Cost: $50 members / $75 non-members

FCA Power Camp Application 

We are excited to offer the following summer sports and academic camps:

All-Sports Camp
Details: This is the perfect blend of sports, recreational games, and camaraderie with campers participating in a multitude of exciting, fun-filled games. The curriculum is designed to be fun and instructional, and includes age appropriate skill building activities. The primary focus is to help campers enjoy themselves in an atmosphere that promotes self-confidence and teamwork. Children will learn and play several different sports each day. Our main goal is to foster learning in a fun, sports-oriented atmosphere where children receive positive feedback for their accomplishments and recognition for their participation. Bring all the equipment you intend to use* (proper athletic attire and shoes) as well as a lunch. * A list of additional items needed will be provided at first day of camp.
Dates: June 16-20, June 23-27, July 7-11, July 14–18, July 21–25, July 28-August 1, August 4-8, August 11-15, August 18-22

Baseball Camp
Details: Camp will feature all phases of the game of baseball- Players work to improve their offense and defense, power hitting, average, throwing, fielding, catching, pitching and speed/agility. Each position will be covered thoroughly as well. Campers will have the opportunity to play live games during camp. Bring all the equipment you intend to use (bats, gloves, catcher's gear, etc) as well as a lunch.

The Ricky Proehl Football Camp
Details:The primary objective of the camp is to teach the correct fundamentals of football in a fun and challenging atmosphere. This will be achieved by campers rotating through various stations on the field, performing different drills and practicing effective techniques. Because our outstanding coaches care as much about the children OFF the field as they do on the field, there will be a strong emphasis placed on the importance of school, social and moral responsibility, spirituality, self-esteem and commitment. With the combined elements of elite instruction and personal development, our camp is unique in its vision of the complete athlete. Bring all the equipment you intend to use (proper athletic attire, shoes and mouthpiece required). Scholarship Request Form

Boys Basketball
Details: Camp will feature all phases of the game of basketball- Ball handling and dribble moves, passing and catching, shooting preparation and form, defense on the ball and off the ball, screening and cutting, plus rebounding and jumping. Games, and shooting and dribbling competitions will add excitement for each camper. Bring all the equipment you intend to use (proper basketball attire & basketball shoes) as well as a lunch.

The Ricky Proehl Football Camp

Speed/Agility/Athletic Development/Sports Performance 
Details: The main goal of this camp is to improve overall athletic ability. Campers will be instructed on proper weight lifting technique, speed training, flexibility exercises, and agility and conditioning drills. Bring all the equipment you intend to use (proper athletic attire and shoes) as well as a lunch.
Date: July 7 - July 11 (Mon, Wed & Friday)
Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Ages:  7 – 18
Cost: $75 members/$90 non-members

Softball
Details: Whether you are a first-time softball player in need of the basics of pitching, hitting and fielding or you are an elite college-bound athlete preparing for the tough college circuit, Proehlific Park Softball Camp offers instruction for all levels of play - from the short game to the long ball, from mental toughness to conditioning.  You’ll learn from 5th year Greensboro College Head Coach, Kama Tucker.  Coach Tucker has coached numerous teams to consistent national rankings and is a former two-time team MVP, all-conference player and tournament MVP at Barton College. Proehlific Park Softball Campers Receive: 2 - 4 days of professional instruction for both offense and defense – taught at the highest level, skills and drills to improve your game in every aspect, opportunity to meet and learn from the best college softball players and college coaches in the area, low player to coach ratio. Bring all the equipment you intend to use (bats, gloves, catcher's gear, etc) as well as a lunch.
Dates: Session #1:  Pitching/Catching Camp - July 7 & 8 
           Session #2:  Hitting/Fielding Camp - July 9 & 10

Ages: 7-18
Cost: Each 2 day camp is $75 member/$100 non-members

Players have ample opportunity to test their new skills in short-sided daily games. Bring all the equipment you intend to use (proper athletic attire, cleats and shin guards and soccer ball) as well as a lunch.

FCA Power Camp
Details:FCA Power Camp is a youth sports camp for children 6-14 years old who want to develop their skills in sports with a spiritual aspect.  This camp provides excellent instruction and competition through sport-specific and multi-sport focus.  The spiritual aspect will be accomplished in Huddles (small group time) before camp starts each day and at the end of each day.  GET FOCUSED is the theme this year of FCA : Philippians 3 :13-14  "One thing I do: forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God's heavenly call in Christ Jesus."  This camp will impact the life of the camper by connecting him/ her with love for sports and love for Christ.  Trained staff will encourage the children to focus their lives on Christ and help them realize God's love for them.  Each camper will receive a Proehlific Park/ FCA Power Camp t-shirt. Bring all the equipment you intend to use* (proper athletic attire and shoes) as well as a lunch. * A list of additional items needed will be provided at first day of camp.

Academic Summer Camps

Details: We will be offering a variety of academic classes for every age group and academic need. Please see descriptions below to find the best class for your child! To ensure quality instruction, classes for grades K-6 will be structured for groups of 4-6 students with slightly larger groups for grades 7-12. All classes, with the exception of SAT Prep and Study Skills, will be offered every week Monday –Friday.

GRADES K-3

Rookie Readers - will practice various reading skills and strategies to promote fluency, comprehension, and good study habits. Time: 9:00am – 10:00am 

Rookie Writers - will practice correct letter recognition and formation, proper spacing, capitalization and punctuation. Students will also learn prewriting strategies to compose narrative stories both verbally and in written form. Time: 10:00am - 11:00am  

Grand Slam Math - will offer a multi-sensory approach to help children understand number relationships. Time: 11:00am - 12:00pm


GRADES 4-6

All Star Readers - will continue to reinforce word attack skills, fluency and comprehension as the focus shifts from narrative to expository reading in various subject areas. The strategy SQ3R will be taught to help students manipulate content reading and to reinforce study skills. Time: 9:00am - 10:00am

Semi Pro Writers - will use the 6 Trait Writing method along with the writing process to develop well structured paragraphs as a foundation for composing cohesive essays. Emphasis will be on organization through the use of graphic organizers, grammar and mechanics, and final editing and revision procedures. This course will also prepare students for the national writing test. Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm 

Minor League Math- will provide review and practice of basic math skills involving computation and problem solving using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. We will integrate technology using several websites to reinforce math skills. Time: 10:00am – 11:00am

Touchdown Technology - will enhance keyboarding skills and create eye catching presentations and fun spreadsheets with Microsoft Office. We will reinforce correct typing habits and increase efficiency and productivity. This class is particularly helpful for those students who struggle with pencil and paper. Time: 11:00am - 12:00pm

Home Run Study Skills- will assess each student’s learning style and use the results to explore various strategies to teach students how to “study smart.” We will cover topics such as setting priorities, time management, scheduling short and long term projects, taking notes, hi-liting, using SQ3R study method, principals of memory, and mnemonic devices. This class is a must for the college bound student! Time: 11:00am - 12:30pm Monday - Thursday (please note this is a 90 minute class).

GRADES 7-12 

Linebackers in Literature - will focus on the study of the novel using an in-depth analysis of the five elements of a novel or short story, character, plot, setting, theme, and point of view. Students will become aware of how these elements contribute to the overall effect of the fictitious work. Critical thinking and literary terms will also be an integral part of this class to better prepare students for college level courses. Time:  9:00am - 10:00am  

Pros in Prose - will review and refine techniques in organizing, drafting, editing, revising and composing a “published” piece of prose. Emphasis will be placed on preparation for the national writing test and the SAT writing portion of the exam. Time: 10:00am - 11:00am

Major League Math - will cover more complex mathematical concepts including algebraic reasoning, geometry and pre-calculus. Focus will be on understanding algebraic terms, word problems and the application of knowledge and theory. Time: 11:00am - 12:00pm

SAT Prep - will build students' confidence as well as competence in preparing for the new college entrance exam by using specific strategies geared to the items on each section of the test. Students will be able to take and score practice tests in order to make significant gains in achieving mastery. Students may sign up for the math portion offered July 14-25 and/or verbal July 28-Aug. 8.
Time: 10:00am - 11:00am.
