Andrew Gaunt is Proehlific Park’s
lacrosse instructor. He is currently Greensboro Day School’s Head Boy’s
Lacrosse Coach. A graduate of Catawba College, where he was a four year starter
in goal, a three time first team all-conference selection and a three time MVP.
As a sophomore in college he was named as one of the top three goalies in
Division II by Face-Off Magazine. He set several school records, some of which
still stand and as a senior he was selected to the USILA (United States
Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association) Division I All-Star game.
Prior to attending Catawba College
Coach Gaunt, a native of Manchester, England, represented the English National
team at both the full and U19 level. He won gold medals in the 1995 and 1996
European Championships and he was a team captain and team MVP of the U19
national team.
Coach Andrew Gaunt brings a wealth
of teaching and coaching experience with him. He teaches PE in Greensboro Day
School’s lower school as well as coaching soccer, basketball and lacrosse. He
held a similar position at the Maret School in Washington, D.C where some of
his former players went on and played lacrosse at Ohio Wesleyan University,
Catawba College, Denison University, Kenyon College and Brown University. Coach
Gaunt coached at the collegiate level too. He was the head coach at Mars Hill
College, where he coached the school’s first, First Team All-conference
selection, the school’s first “Freshman of the Year” and the school’s first
All- American player.
A veteran of the summer lacrosse
camp circuit, Coach Gaunt has had the privilege of working with some of the
greatest minds in the game. He has worked camps at some of the most prestigious
lacrosse playing colleges in the country including UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke
University, Georgetown University and the US Naval Academy.
