Mikel Rodenberg
is a High Point native who attended Wesleyan Christian Academy for High School
where he was a four-year starter. There he earned All-state honors as a
catcher, but got recruited mainly to pitch. After his senior season, suffering
from a torn ligament in his elbow he attended High Point University on a
Presidential Leadership Scholarship and then earned a baseball scholarship.
He
had to sit out his first year of college due to a medical redshirt after he had
Tommy John Surgery. However, after a year of dedication to physical therapy
Mikel became a weekday starter for his first two years, then transitioned into
the closer role for the Panthers. He considers his greatest collegiate memories
when he earned the save to beat East Carolina University with the bases loaded
and tying run on 3rd and also when he pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th inning
against the UNC Tar heels. Mikel recently graduated in May 2011 with degrees in
both Sports Management and Accounting.
